Christ Church Food Pantry

Christ Church Food Pantry

Through the food pantry, Christ Episcopal Church strives to reach out those in our area who find themselves in need of support in their daily lives. We are a member of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. The pantry distributes food on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 A.M. to Noon. Because we have limited space and volunteer resources, we may serve only existing clients from time to time. This information is posted on the doors to the pantry area and is available from the church office.

Basic Pantry
Our food distribution includes three different programs. 1) The basic pantry is open to any who ask for help during pantry hours. Each participant is offered a basic bag of food. In addition, pantry patrons may make selections from produce, bread, meat and drug store items as available. 2) We also distribute food from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) surplus program. This food is in addition to our regular pantry offerings. It is available to clients of any age who meet income guidelines established by the federal government. 3) Food for Life is a second program supported by the federal government. This additional box of food is available to those over the age of fifty five and those with a documented disability.

Additional Programs
Through the pantry Christ Church also provides several additional programs to support pantry clients. The first pantry of each month includes a Pantry Prayer and Praise service held at 9:00 A.M. in the great room of All Saints Hall above the distribution rooms. All are welcome to participate including pantry clients, members of the pantry staff, other parish members and any others who wish to join in. Also at the first pantry of the month, assistance is available to complete applications for SNAP benefits (Food Stamps). People do not have to be pantry clients to receive assistance in applying for SNAP. In the late Summer before public schools begin the church provides Back Packs to school age children of pantry clients. These are filled with supplies based on lists provided by the schools. At Thanksgiving and Christmas one pantry date is replaced by special Holiday Distributions of foods for special holiday meals.

The Christ Church Food Pantry is an all-volunteer operation. We welcome any who would like to participate in this outreach ministry. We need people to:

Pack bags for distribution
Shop for food at the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank
Stock pantry shelves
Keep records for the pantry
Distribute food on pantry days
Carry groceries to cars on pantry days
Remove trash from pantry rooms after use
