Food Pantry
The pantry is open 10 am to 12 noon on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. Volunteers work in All Saints Hall each of these days to hand out bags of food to supplement the needs of local families. Families receive nonperishable food along with refrigerated food, frozen food and toiletries. The food pantry is stocked by parishioner’s donations and purchases of food from the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. Families that qualify for USDA food dues to limited resources receive an extra box of food once a month, which Christ Church receives from the Federal Government by way of the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. The church also maintains a Victory Garden at the rear of the church property to grow vegetables for distribution in the pantry.
Currently the pantry is serving approximately 85 families a month.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We always need volunteers to staff the pantry, help stock shelves
and donate food or money to buy food. During the growing season any
help with maintaining the garden is also greatly appreciated.
Holiday Baskets
Outreach assists our pantry patrons and other nominees on low incomes at the holiday season to be able to celebrate with a turkey or ham and traditional trimmings of the season. This is part of the outreach budget but donations assist in Outreach being able to help more families and give more to each family. In 2008 we served 54 families a significant increase from the 21 in 2007.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We need donations of seasonal food or money to purchase food. We need
volunteers to help pack the boxes and distribute the food on pickup
days.
