The Christ Church Outreach Commission just completed the Holiday Basket Program for needy people in Spotsylvania County. This ministry provides a “Holiday Basket” that includes a turkey and traditional side dishes for a holiday meal at Thanksgiving and Christmas for our Food Pantry patrons and other nominees who need help in acquiring the resources for such a large meal. For Thanksgiving 47 families were served and at Christmas 54 families were served. Food donations were by parish member’s food or monetary donations, canned food donations through the Scouts “Scouting for Food” drive, and donations from local businesses. Christ Church would like to thank the Scouts, Sam’s Pizza and Subs, Found and Son’s Funeral Service, and Burleson Financial Strategies for their assistance in meeting this need in our community.

Outreach also coordinated two fundraisers in the holiday season to support the Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child” as well as donations to Heifer International. The church collected 23 shoes boxes of gifts to be donated to children in need throughout the world through Operation Christmas Child. Also as part of the church nativity scene donations were made by church members to buy animals for people in developing nations through the Heifer Project at Heifer International. The animals purchased were then symbolized by animals characters displayed as part of the nativity scene. More information on this project can be found at the organization website www.heifer.org.
