ANNOUNCEMENTS

All people who have been baptized with water in the Name of the Holy Trinity are invited to receive Communion with us today. Children may receive at their parent’s discretion.  If you are a visitor or a newcomer, please fill out one of the cards in the pew and place it in the offering plate or give it to an usher.  The Book of Common Prayer, or Prayer Book, is the red book in the pews. Page numbers are denoted in the bulletin with the shorthand “BCP”.  The Hymnal 1982 is the blue book.  The “S” numbers indicate Service music found in the front of the Hymnal, while the other numbers are hymns found in the latter section of the book.

Children are welcome to participate fully in our worship.  For your convenience, we also provide nursery care for children, infant through preschool during our 10:00  service, in room 1 of All Saints Hall. The nursery room will be open during the 9:15 service for those parents who find it necessary to take children out of the service and who need a place to stay with them until the service is over.

We ask your prayers for Anne Alexick, Robert Breimann, Betty Brooks, Kristin Broyles, Harrison Carter, Tom Cleland, Licha Cratty, Lou Creel, John Curtis, Virginia Daniels, Donna DiRusso, Fortunato DiRusso,  Matthew Drumheller, Sarah Enoff, Andre Forest, Robert and Pat French, Lindsey Gunderson, Debra Hall, Marthalene Herrin, Greta Houck, Fisher Kee, Tom Kovach, Nick Knepp, Dave Lambrecht, Eric LeBlanc, Shannon Link , Robyn and Joseph Loving, June Massey, Heather Mattero, Deanie McNeill, Mary McWhirt, Betsy Menin, Craig Naylor, Phyllis Orange, Beckie Mohn, Richard Moynahan, Randy Palmer, Kathie Pendleton, Marianne Prowitt,  Lisa Sarber, James Scott , James and Virginia Scott,  Jeff Siedl, Pat and John Sinclair, Irene Skowron, Adelynn Smith, Christine Strait, Ruby Strysko, Jamie Strysko, Lynn Thompson, Hazel Tompkins, William Truslow,  Alice Walker, Annie Laurie Walker,  Robert Wells, Charles Westcott, Jackie, and Todd. (New names this week are listed in bold).

The altar arrangement this morning is given to the glory of God and in thanksgiving for their family and for their 50th wedding anniversary by Joan and Ted Gurniak.

Fellowship Hour.  Please join us at All Saints Hall after the 10:00 service.  Hosting this Sunday are Joan and Ted Gurniak. Sign up at the Communication Center if you would like to host the Coffee Hour.

Next Sunday we begin again our informal discussions on the ongoing discernment process for the parish.  Meet in the Great Hall of All Saints Hall at 9:15 AM for information and a chance to contribute to the discussion.

There is still time to get your entry in to Name the Thrift Shop.  Entry forms are at the Communication Center.  Entries are due by September 7.  We will vote on the finalists, narrowed from all entries by the vestry, at the parish picnic September 28.

Mustard Seed Grant received.  Christ Church has received a grant from the Diocese of Virginia to do a comprehensive energy audit and explore becoming a green parish.

Attention Golf Tournament Captains.  Please pick up the photo montage from the Church Golf Tournament in the back of the church.  You may make copies for the rest of your team.  Thom Smelter

Car Show Quilt,  a lovely blue and white, will be yours if your ticket is drawn.  Buy tickets from Alice Daniels.

Start Your engines!  The Car Show is coming, October 4.  Is there something you enjoy making and think other people would be interested in buying?  It could be wall hangings, Christmas decorations, scarves, wreaths, items made of wood or other materials, jewelry, dolls or anything else.  If so, please work on some of your favorite projects and donate them for the Craft Sales at the Car show on October 4th.  Maybe you have been to a craft fair and bought a few too many items for gifts.  Consider donating these to the Craft Sales also.  Please call Mary Williams  785-4451 or Alice Daniels, 786-8038 for more information.

United Thank Offering will be collected on September 28, the day of the parish picnic.  Continue to fill your boxes (more in Communication Center) for UTO.

The Food Pantry needs food.  The number of families served has doubled in the past few months.  Needed items: boxes of instant potatoes, canned pasta, vegetables, tuna fish and fruits.  Also, cereal, spaghetti, instant pudding, granola bars, instant milk and Velveeta cheese.  Leave bags of food at back pew of church.

The Episcopal Church Women have purchased two coat racks that were kindly assembled by Bill and Joan Palmer for use in All Saints Hall.  We now need donations of hangers – plastic or wooden only please – so the coat racks will be ready for our winter coats.  Please place the hangers on the racks which are in the chair closet in ASH. Thank you Palmers for your hard work!

Summer Yoga Classes will continue through August 20, meeting in rooms 6/7. You can join them both days or one day per week or on a “drop-in” basis. For more information please contact Missie Jarman at 582-8331 or e-mail her at missiejarman@starpower.net.

Recycle Used Ink Jet Cartridges in a box at the base of the Communication Center.  Each cartridge may earn $4 for Christ Church.  If you have any questions, please contact Sandy Snyder at 540-891-2589 or sanjesse@verizon.net.

A New Baby.  The Revs. Alexander and Karin McPhail and big brother Peter welcomed Margaret Alice MacPhail into their family on June 27, 2008.  Maggie weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces and was 18 inches long at birth.  All are doing well at home in Woodstock.  Karin was our summer seminarian intern in 2003.

The next vestry meeting is Thursday, September 11, at 7:00 PM in room 8 of All Saints Hall.

Deadlines:      Sunday bulletin announcements: noon Wednesday.
