We have restarted the prayer list for the New Year. If you would like to add someone to the list, please contact the parish office.

Thanks to everyone who has made their pledge for 2012!  There are extra pledge cards at the back of the church, and at the Communications Center.  So far we have received 81 pledges for a total of $162,095.

At Our Annual Parish Meeting last Sunday, four new members of the vestry were elected and to them, we give our hearty congratulations!  Henry Howe will serve the remaining one-year of an unexpired term. Steve Clifford, Ruth Brancolini, and Roger Williams will each serve for three years.  Many thanks to the members who have finished their terms: Joe Junod, Josh LeBlanc, and Tricia Smelter.  They have all done well in service to Christ Church. Also, thanks to Danville Fourie who has moved back home to South Africa after serving two of his three years. For those who missed the meeting, our Annual Report is available in the back of the church and in the Communication Center.

Parish Retreat at Shrine Mont registration form is due TODAY with deposit. Forms are available in the back of the church and in the Communication Center. Final payment is not due until April 29.  Retreat will be May 4-6.

This Friday, February 3, the slate of candidates for Bishop Suffragan will be released.  Watch the diocesan web page www.thediocese.net for names and descriptions of the candidates. 

Bishop Gulick will visit next Sunday, February 5.  He will preside and preach at the 10:30 service, celebrating confirmations, and installing our new Vestry members.  The loose plate offering next week will be designated to the bishop’s discretionary fund.  Following the service, there will be a reception in the Great Hall.  The ECW is asking members to please bring in “finger food” to accommodate those attending. Gentlemen, come to the Super Bowl party on February 5th for men and boys hosted by Pat Rooney at his home.  Sign up at the Communications Center TODAY so we know how much food to purchase.  Don’t miss this opportunity for fun and male bonding.  The party starts at 5:30.

Christ Church Sweetheart Dinner. Bring your sweetheart for a delicious dinner in the Great Hall on Friday, Feb. 10th, 5:30 PM till ?. Entrees offered are Pork Tenderloin and Chicken Schnitzel.
See the flyer at the Comm. Center and please sign up TODAY so we’ll know how much food to purchase. Cost is only $10 a person and not due until you arrive for the dinner.  Appropriate music will be played for your dining pleasure and for those who wish to enjoy some dancing afterward.  What a lovely evening this should be!

The Book Group will meet on Monday, February 6th beginning at 11:30 AM in ASH #8.  We will discuss the book Redemption by Leon Uris. Redemption continues the story of the Larkins and the Hubbles from his earlier book, Trinity. It moves from Ireland to New Zealand, and back to Ireland to continue the fight for Irish independence. The Book Group read Trinity in the fall of 2008.  Please bring a bag lunch.

Samaritan Woman Prayer Group.  The next meeting will be held after the 10:30 service on February 12th.  Bring a bag lunch.  If you missed the last meeting, please see Anne Williams after church to get meditation #3.

The Christ Church Food Pantry continues to feed well over 100 hungry families each month, all year long. The pantry doors are open the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:00 AM to Noon. We have jobs for able-bodied volunteers as well as for those who prefer sit-down paperwork. Call Stephanie Smith (540) 582-6162 to find out more. Come see what a joy it is to share our bounty with truly appreciative neighbors in need.

The Thrift Shop took in $2,562 in sales for the first three weeks in January.  Please tell your friends and neighbors about our Thrift Shop. Also, consider volunteering, and spread the word about donations that are always needed.  Note:  We can no longer accept computers or TVs (except flat screens). Think Spring!  The Christ Church golf tournament will be held on May 18th at the Fredericksburg Country Club. The theme is “Fairways for Food”.  All proceeds will go to the food pantry.  More information to follow
